UPDATE IN PEDICULOSIS MANAGEMENT: WHAT’S NEW IN 2007?

Dr. Ian Landells

Pediculus humanus capitas or the common head louse continues to be a frequent occurrence in today’s society especially amongst children of school age 4-11. Management of this condition continues to be a challenge due to increasing levels of resistance to existing therapies, concerns of using pesticide-based products and poor patient compliance.  This session will provide an update on the diagnosis, management and treatment of head lice in 2007, highlighting a new non-pesticidal alternative, Isopropyl Myristate 50% (Resultz). In Phase 2 and 3 clinical trials, Isopropyl Myristate (50%) has been shown to be highly effective and safe. It's colourless, odourless formulation should also aid in compliance. Resultz provides a new clinically proven option for those concerned with resistance to existing therapies or hesitant to use pesticide based products.
