Immune Response Modifiers (IRMs) are a new class of drugs developed by 3M Pharmaceuticals.  IRMs work with the body’s own immune system to fight virus infected cells and tumour cells. Aldara (imiquimod) 5% cream is the first and only patient-applied topical treatment to combat the HPV virus that causes genital warts.

3M Canada recently submitted a supplemental new drug submission (sNDS) with Health Canada to market Aldara (imiquimod) 5% cream, for the treatment of actinic keratosis (AK). AK is a common, potentially serious skin condition caused by sun damage.
