The global mission of Allergan, Inc.’s Skin Care division is to exceed the expectations of both patients and skin care providers. In existence for more than 30 years, the Skin Care division has been driven to surpass the demands of all its customers.  As a leader in retinoid, alpha hydroxy acid and neuromodulator research, Allergan is well on its way towards a goal of defining excellence in skin care.

In Canada, the current flagship products for Allergan Skin Care are Tazorac®, BOTOX Cosmetic®, and BOTOX® for Hyperhidrosis.  Tazorac® (tazarotene) is currently the fastest growing topical retinoid in Canada and is approved for the treatment of acne vulgaris (cream 0.1% and gel 0.1% and 0.05%), plaque psoriasis (0.05% and 0.1% for both cream and gel), and most recently, photodamage (cream 0.1%).  BOTOX Cosmetic® (botulinum toxin type A) was approved and launched in April 2001 for the treatment of glabellar lines. As a simple, non-surgical treatment, BOTOX Cosmetic® has quickly established itself as the most common cosmetic procedure in North America. Most recently, BOTOX® has been launched in Canada as a successful treatment for Hyperhidrosis patients.

Within the field of skin care, Allergan is one of the few companies that still conducts primary research with the goal of building upon its present successes to shape the future of skin care for patients and professionals. Included in Allergan’s growing R&D pipeline is oral Tazarotene. Studies are being completed for the treatment of moderate to severe psoriasis and moderate to severe acne.

Canadian dermatologists are contributing to the development of these new treatments by actively participating in these clinical programs.

Allergan Skin Care is a proud supporter of the Canadian Dermatology Foundation.
