The Fujisawa Pharmaceutical Company, headquartered in Japan , is a company with a firm commitment to innovative research in its quest to satisfy unmet medical needs and contribute to the progress of medical care. The Canadian office is located in Markham , Ontario , and our Medical Science Liaisons (MSL's) call on physicians across the country. Protopic® (tacrolimus ointment), approved in Canada in June 2001, is the first of a new class of drugs called topical immunomodulators. Protopic is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis. Extensive clinical studies performed to date have demonstrated Protopic's superior efficacy vs. placebo and corticosteroids; they have also shown an excellent safety profile with few adverse effects. Protopic is the first major breakthrough for the treatment of atopic dermatitis in over 40 years, since the introduction of topical corticosteroids. It has been studied in more than 16,000 patients (including 3,000 children); over 1 million patients world-wide have been treated with Protopic. Fujisawa Canada is very excited to be working with Canadian Dermatologists in our ongoing Protopic research program and looks forward to a strong and continued relationship as we continue to grow our dermatology franchise.
