WELCOME TO DERM 2009!

 

On this special occasion marking the 25th anniversary, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Dermatology Update. This milestone year affirms that the organizing committee, in collaboration with participants and sponsors, has developed a formula for success, which dates back to this meeting’s inception in 1984.

The annual Dermatology Update meeting has garnered the reputation as a leading forum for disseminating up-to-date information on new drugs and therapeutic approaches for the management of skin diseases. With the transformation of dermatology over the past 25 years, we have endeavored to keep pace each year by striving to assemble a panel of experts that present current topics that are of both relevance and interest to practicing clinicians. Furthermore, each year’s meeting offered ideal opportunities to interact with colleagues and sponsors that served to generate new prospects for collaborative efforts. The inclusion of workshops and advisory board meetings prior to the main plenary sessions has added a further dimension to Dermatology Update that has proven to be effective in promoting and encouraging interactive discussions between experts in the field. The intent of the multiple components to the current meeting program permits participants to sharpen their therapeutic skills. Most importantly, attendees are offered firsthand exposure to how dermatological leaders from around the world are implementing patient care and research initiatives.

The 25th Dermatology Update meeting will be held in historic Montréal, March 26 - 29, 2009, at the Sheraton Hotel. Because this year marks a significant milestone for Dermatology Update, one of the highlights we have planned is a special reception and dinner on the Saturday evening to commemorate our silver anniversary. The venue selected to host this celebration is La Belle Provence, and the organizers promise that it will be a superb and memorable opportunity for all who attend to enjoy excellent food and fine wine with friends and colleagues from across the country.

The organizing committee members, including myself, would like to extend our sincerest thanks and appreciation to fellow colleagues for their ongoing contributions to the field of dermatology - their incessant pursuit of quality patient care, research and dedication to teaching have made significant therapeutic strides; to sponsors who have consistently recognized the value of Dermatology Update and supported its CME mission; and to the organizing team members who have never failed in their mandate to structure a successful annual event. There are also numerous key individuals who have directly or indirectly influenced the success of this meeting, and to them we extend our sincerest gratitude. The tremendous success of each year’s meeting is due, in no small part, to the interest and enthusiasm of attendees, and these qualities are what inspire us to go forward and continue to provide this unique annual event. With the continuing steadfast support from clinicians and industry sponsors, we are certain that this event will continue to play a leading role in introducing timely and practical information that is of relevance to today's dermatologists.
